The Museum of Loss and Renewal on Monte Mare

This work situates an imaginary vitrine from The Museum of Loss and Renewal’s series of cardboard display cases, in Italy’s Apennine mountains.

This work is a photo-collage that situates an imaginary cardboard display case from The Museum of Loss and Renewal‘s series of cases, in Tracy’s Italian family’s home territory in Italy’s Apennine mountains.

The work is part of the project Shelter Stone – The Artist and The Mountain devised by artist Eddie Summerton, that takes the form of a newsprint publication in a numbered edition of 250. It includes contributions by around 35 artists and writers, each with a fascination for the mountain landscape: physical, spiritual, pioneering, poetical, ritualistic. The publication was delivered to over 100 remote bothies during a twelve-month period by Scotland’s Mountain Bothies Association that ‘maintains simple shelters in remote country for the use & benefit of all who love wild & lonely places’.

The publication was presented within a related Edinburgh Festival exhibition Shelter Stone – The Artist and The Mountain in the Octagonal Rooms of the Royal Scottish Academy of Art & Architecture, Edinburgh, 2018; it was launched at the Visual Research Centre, DCA, Dundee to coincide with Dundee Mountain Film Festival, 2017; the project was launched at The Shelter Stone Mountain Refuge in the Cairngorm National Park, Scotland (publication edition number 1/250).
